Soheil Hosseini

Graduate Fellow
Biography

Soheil completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering with a focus on biomedical applications at the University of Tehran and Sharif University of Technology, respectively. He worked as a research engineer at a biomedical tech startup at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Tehran, involved in the design and development of medical imaging equipment (PET/SPECT), winning consecutive national innovation awards. He has volunteered on projects in China, India, Russia, and Kenya. Soheil is interested in languages and speaks great French. He enjoys exploring social and human aspects through conversations, hangouts, movies, table tennis, ..

Soheil has been a proud member of the APPIL lab since January 2020, under the supervision of Dr. Eric Hoffman. His interests lie at the interface of medical imaging and AI, and he aspires to advance in the AI industry. His current project focuses on the automatic segmentation of pulmonary arterial and venous trees using 3D Latent Diffusion Models, GANs, and VAEs. He is also involved in the automatic characterization of these trees to study the implications of vessel shape and geometry in disease etiology, particularly in cohorts susceptible to COPD and emphysema, using dual-energy contrast-enhanced CT scans.
